Climate Zone: IECC Climate Zone 2B (hot-dry). Surprise's northwest valley position produces extreme desert conditions — 109°F cooling design and 29°F heating design. Slightly northwest of central Phoenix, Surprise experiences marginally different conditions during monsoon season.

Energy Code & Manual J Requirement: Arizona Residential Energy Code (IECC 2018). ACCA Manual J required for residential HVAC permits in Maricopa County and Surprise jurisdictions.
